This building was probably built in the late 1930s when the property was owned by Vera Strachan Wilkinson. Brisbane City Council transferred the property to her in 1927, retaining a section for road works. Though the site was vacant in 1937, a branch of L.A. Wilkinson (Northern) Pty Ltd, dispensing chemists, was operating on Barker Street, close to Brunswick Street between the 1920s and late 1930s. At this stage Vera Strachan (nee Wilkinson) and her husband, Reginald Arthur King, were living at ‘Elderlie Station’, Winton where he was a station manager, before returning to live in Clayfield by the early 1940s.The single-storey, brick building has a stepped awning and features a parapet with Art Deco influences. The curved and articulated parapet features engaged piers, rendered cornices and interlocking, horizontal banding.
