‘Elystan House’, an imposing Federation-era timber residence, was built circa 1911, probably following the transfer of the property from Nellie Bragg, spinster to Alice Mary Josephine Roemermann in March that year. By 1912 three properties were listed on the 1905 Turner’s Paddock subdivision between Brunswick Street and Lower Bowen Terrace, including ‘Cabarita’, now ‘Elystan House’. Alice Mary Josephine Roemermann and her husband Charles John Roemermann, a merchant, lived at ‘Cabarita’ for many years. Following her death in 1950, the property was transferred to their sons, Eric Charles and Carl Roemermann.
