This double-storey timber building, comprising a store and dwelling, was built circa 1901 following the transfer of the property to William Wilson, a storekeeper. The store was run by James Wilson for several years. In 1909 the property was transferred to William Francis Glover, a grocer, who continued to run a store on the site. The shop and its location reflect New Farm’s early twentieth century suburban development on the northern side of Brunswick Street, between Brunswick and James Streets. This area was marked by closely-settled subdivisions with narrow streets which were occupied by working-class families close to where they worked in the factories and shops of Fortitude Valley and later, the wharves, warehouses and factories of Teneriffe.
