This two-storey, brick and stucco house was built in 1939 for Thomas William Danaher, a dentist, following the transfer of the property to his wife the previous year. The house was built on the site of a wooden dwelling, named ‘Awa Pepi,’ owned by Augustus Frederick George Sapsford, also a dentist. The architect Edwin Hayes (Hayes & Scott) contributed to the design while articled with the firm of Chambers and Ford. The design was apparently an architectural comment on the Horace Driver house at 111 Moray Street, built in the Interwar Old English Revival style. However, 116 Moray Street included a more eclectic mix of materials and historical motifs. The projecting, cylindrical turret and cupola over the stairwell entrance enhance the house’s picturesque appearance.
