The present Sandgate Railway Station appears to have been opened without ceremony in January 1911, traffic having operated on the line during the previous month. The new station replaced the original built in 1881 that had been located 250m away. Tenders had been called for the erection of the station in March 1910, and work commenced in April. Tenders for the overbridge across the line were called circa 1912.

History
The next demand for a railway in the Brisbane area was for a line to the seaside at Sandgate. It was approved in 1880 and completed in May 1882. . It was known from 1910 to 1938 as Sandgate Central Station, before reverting to Sandgate. An additional station building with shelter was built in the 1950s, and major redevelopment of the station occurred during 1993-94, including a new platform shade and bus/rail interchange and car carparking.
