This Federation era house was built between 1900 and 1901 as a rental property for Spring Hill resident, Thomas Armstrong. In 1965 the property was bought by Spring Hill identity, Cecilia McNally. Known as the ‘Duchess of Spring Hill’, she owned a number of properties in the suburb and was committed to protecting its historic character. In the 1980s she championed a campaign to save Spring Hill from encroaching development. From the 1970s and into the 2000s, McNally organised and ran the iconic Spring Hill Fair and raised large amounts of money for Brisbane charities, for example the Mater Hospital. She was awarded an Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1979 and passed away in 1996.
