The land on which these flats were constructed was acquired by Logan Colquhoun Sparks of Bulimba, in October 1935. It was finally transferred to Elizabeth Frances Sparkes, wife of Joseph Goodall Sparks in April 1936. On March 10 1936 Elizabeth Sparkes lodged a building application for the erection of the timber and fibro flats. The building was designed by Arnold E Brooks, architect of the Canberra Hotel, and built by Ascot builder CG Thiedeke. When Elizabeth died in 1938, her estate was administered by the Queensland Trustees for the benefit of relatives until 1966 when it was transferred to members of the family.
