This house was built in 1913 and marks the former route of Sandgate Road. The Virginia section of Sandgate Road ran beside the original 1928 boundary of the Virginia Golf Course. James McIntyre, a storeman, obtained a state government Worker’s Dwelling Scheme loan to fund construction of his home. He added some farm sheds at the rear. His residence became a local landmark as it was close to, and denoted the intersection of Sandgate and St. Vincents Roads. In 1958-59, Sandgate Road was realigned to allow for the expansion of the Golf Course. This section of Sandgate Road was renamed Downfall Road after the nearby creek. The death of the last of the McIntyre spinster sisters in 1967 saw their home sold and converted into a boarding house. New owners renovated the house in 2003.
