This is one of two residences built in 1891 for the second and third engineers employed at the Mount Crosby Waterworks. The isolation of Mount Crosby and the necessity for the pumping station to be staffed twenty-four hours a day compelled the Board of Waterworks to provide accommodation for the employees working there. The house was designed by former Queensland Colonial Architect Chief Draftsman Charles McLay. The engineers’ cottages, situated high on the ‘Works Hill’ slope and overlooking the Mount Crosby pumping station, were home to the engineers and their families.
This is now a Queensland Heritage Place. Please refer to the Queensland Heritage Register for further details.
