Turbot House was constructed in 1916 for the Farmers Co-operative Distributing Company. The site, purchased by the Cooperative in the same year, was located in the market precinct which occupied Ann, George, Roma, Little Roma and Turbot Streets, for the first half of the twentieth century. The five storey brick warehouse building was designed by Edward M. Myers and included cooling chambers for fruit and perishables, as well as office accommodation. The Cooperative (later renamed the Producers Co-operative Distributing Society) moved into the building in 1917 and occupied the premises until the mid-1960s, selling the property after the markets moved to Rocklea in 1964. Turbot House was subsequently used for offices and in the 1990s was refurbished and converted to a hotel.
