Shelter (Bowen Park) (QHR)

This shelter stands with a collection of other waiting shelters at the bus stop on the inbound side of Bowen Bridge Road outside Bowen Park and opposite the Royal Brisbane Hospital. It was built around 1925, after the Brisbane City Council and Tramways Trust each agreed to fund half the cost of construction. The shelter was at a popular location, sited on the main northern arterial road and close to public facilities including Bowen Park, the hospital, the Exhibition grounds and the museum. The roof is clad with metal sheeting that has the appearance of terracotta tiles and the eaves to the kerb and south sides were truncated when Bowen Bridge Road was widened in the 1940s. The shelter accommodates two timber seats which vary from the standard design in having two back rest rails.
