This porphyry retaining wall, probably constructed in the 1930s as part of a government relief project, extends in two directions from the corner of Cambridge Parade and Carlton Terrace. A significant amount of civic work was completed under the relief project at Manly and other Brisbane bayside areas, including seawalls, shore reclamation works and the State Heritage listed ‘Great Wall of Manly’. This wall is built at a slight batter and features polygonal stonework with raised cement pointing and is surmounted by cement capping. The 40 metre long section of wall running west along Cambridge Parade incorporates a set of concrete steps. A simple painted timber post and rail fence runs the length of most of the wall. The wall is significant as it is an example of the Depression alleviation works and demonstrates the improvements undertaken at Manly as it became a popular seaside location for Brisbane residents.
