Waterworks Cottages No. 109 & 110 is one of four duplexes built circa 1892 for the first stage of the Mount Crosby Waterworks. The isolation of Mount Crosby and the necessity for the pumping station to be staffed twenty-four hours a day compelled the Board of Waterworks to provide accommodation for the employees working there. Architect Charles McLay called for tenders for eight workers’ dwellings, including this duplex, in November 1891. The duplexes were home to the eight firemen who operated the boilers at the Mount Crosby pumping station.
This is now a Queensland Heritage Place. Please refer to the Queensland Heritage Register for further details.
