This property was originally owned by the MacDougall family and later bought by the Burrows family, both pioneer settlers of the Mount Crosby area. The date of construction of the house is unknown but it was probably the residence of Alexander McDougall from the 1880s; the height of the 1893 flood is marked on the house. The McDougalls used the property for farming, one of Mount Crosby’s primary industries at that time, although this was mainly restricted to cattle and dairy farming as the ground proved unfruitful for crops. Edwin Burrows purchased the property in 1901, running it as a dairy farm with his wife Martha. The Burrows family owned the property until 2001, selling small parcels of the land over time. Burrow’s house reflects the rural nature of Mt Crosby through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Trees, including a large fig tree and two pine trees planted in front of the house by the Burrows family in the 1960s, make an aesthetic contribution to the property.
