This residence was built for the first stage of the Mount Crosby Waterworks. The isolation of Mount Crosby and the necessity for the pumping station to be staffed twenty-four hours a day compelled the Board of Waterworks to provide accommodation for the employees working there. Architect Charles McLay called for tenders for workers’ dwellings at Mt Crosby, including this one, in November 1891. When completed, the cottage housed the drayman employed at the Mount Crosby pumping station.
This is now a Queensland Heritage Place. Please refer to the Queensland Heritage Register for further details.
