This relocated one-teacher school building in Mt Gravatt Campus of Griffith University, was originally the Yarranlea State School from 1883 to 1977. It was relocated from Yarranlea, just south-west of Toowoomba, to the Mount Gravatt College of Advanced Education (MGCAE) in the late 1970s and was used as a museum display school until 1987. MCAE amalgamated with Griffith University and the school then became a fully functioning Queensland state school known as “Old Yarranlea State School”. The school was closed by Education Qld at the end of 2013. With support from school families, Griffith University and the wider community through Yarranlea Limited, the current Yarranlea Primary School opened as an independent school in mid 2014.
