This set of brick flats was built between 1939 and 1940 and designed by successful Brisbane architectural firm, Chambers and Ford. First named ‘Elizabeth’ flats, they were built as an investment property for Jessie Wylie Shears. ‘Elizabeth’ flats are important in demonstrating Brisbane’s development pattern in the interwar period, in particular in New Farm, and the way in which ideas about acceptable forms of housing were changing.
