This masonry dwelling was built circa 1927 for Edmund Rosenstengel, a distinguished furniture maker, who lived here until his death in 1962. His showroom was located at 524 Brunswick Street where he operated from 1922 to 1958.Edmund and his wife, Eveleen, purchased the property at 72 Harcourt Street in 1922 and subsequently built a two-storey masonry dwelling on the site of ‘Hazeldene’ a timber residence, once part of the estate of Eugene Doctor. The multi-gabled Californian bungalow, built in roughcast stucco, features leadlight doors and wooden shingles above the verandah entrance.
