Following sales of the Teneriffe Estate, ‘Clivedale’ was built circa 1889 for Francis Lascelles, an accountant, commission agent and public figure. It was renamed ‘Blairnile’ by its next resident, John McMaster, whose wife acquired the site a year before McMaster was elected Lord Mayor of Brisbane for a fourth time. Situated on the heights of Teneriffe Hill, the large timber family residence appealed as an inner-city home for working professionals and their wives, who hosted social events at the house. ‘Blairnile’ was converted to flats in the 1950s, though it returned to use as a single family dwelling in the early twenty-first century.
