Located on the embankment outside Annerley Junction Hotel, this landmark fig tree is the last remaining on Ipswich Road from a series of beautification works in the early twentieth century. Circa 1911-15 a large number of fig trees had been planted along Ipswich Rd in Annerley, reputedly as part of a commemorative event for the newly-named suburb. From as early as the mid-1930s, the trees were progressively removed from the roadway.
