Shorncliffe State School first opened as an infants’ school in January 1919. It took students up to second class (or about eight years old), helping to alleviate the overcrowding at Sandgate School. The former Court House hosted the school until 1928, when enrolment was extended to all primary-school aged children and a new wing was constructed and opened. This west-facing building was turned in 1933-4 to rectify its alignment. Additional buildings were constructed in 1938-9 and 1944, the former involving the demolition of the Court House. The school has continued to provide education for children in the Shorncliffe area since the 1920s.
