Brisbane State High School (QHR)

After Separation from New South Wales in 1859, the Queensland colonial government built public schools. Constructed in 1864, the South Brisbane State School was one of the first to be completed in Brisbane. In 1877, a perpendicular addition provided two more classrooms plus two small teacher rooms buildings were built on either side of this extension. The original brick building was rendered in 1928. In 1932, a major extension to the left side of this building added 11 bays. Established in Ann Street, the City in 1913, Brisbane State High School relocated to South Brisbane in 1925. ‘State High’ incorporated the South Brisbane State School buildings into its campus by the early 1960s.
