This pair of shops with the separate residence at the back was built in 1919 for Richard Boorman. Apart from operating as Sunnybank’s General Store, the shop was also the area’s first post office. In 1925, it obtained the district’s first public telephone. In 1936, Arthur and Hilda Potten purchased the shops and residence. It subsequently became known as Potten’s Corner. With its prime location across from Sunnybank Station, the shops were Sunnybank’s first retail precinct and retained this community importance until replaced by the new suburban shopping centres in the 1970s.
