This building on the corner of Mains and Beenleigh Roads was constructed as the Sunnybank Methodist Church in November 1936 as part of the newly formed Moorooka Methodist Circuit. Fundraising efforts by the local community from as early as 1932 contributed to the cost of building the new church (some £400) and continued after its opening to reduce the church debt. The land was donated by Mrs Sophia White, who was aged 83 when she attended the stump-capping ceremony on 17 October 1936. The corner site of the church was resumed by Brisbane City Council for road purposes on 3 March 1979 and the Sunnybank Uniting Church vacated the site. The Sunnybank Variety Group, a local drama organisation established in 1965, applied to Council to lease the building and financed its relocation on the site. The work which included raising the hall and enclosing the area underneath the stage and kitchen with concrete block was completed by March 1981. The building has been renamed the STG Live Theatre.
