This finely-detailed timber cottage was built c1884 for James Bradley. Bradley was a joiner by trade who lived in Montague Road, South Brisbane. The house has a number of unusual features such as timber and cast iron verandah detailing, a triple roof line and an attractive front entrance portico. It was constructed as a rental property and its decorative features were thought to have been built so as to attract a wealthier tenant than residents of the surrounding houses, in what was a working-class part of West End. Among the tenants were music teacher Mrs. C. Bottger. In 1922, a widow Mrs. Lizzie Griffith became the first owner-occupier of this residence by which time the house was conveniently adjacent to the Boundary Street tramline. She lived there until her death in 1946.
