This large timber house is part of the original grand residence of 'Fairleigh' built for real estate magnate, William James Hooker, circa 1881. The former kitchen is now a separate home in Fairleigh Street at the rear of the property. It is significant for the evidence it provides of patterns of historical development in Windsor in the late 19th century and for its association William James Hooker.
