Part of the Thorroldtown Estate, this site was acquired by carpenter Robert Gillies in November 1886. Gillies mortgaged the land in December 1887, and by 1889 was residing in this house on what was known as Lutwyche-street, Thorroldtown. In July 1893 his wife, Margaret Gillies authorised the public auction of their household furniture, and the house was later recorded as vacant. The house was sold in 1899 and occupied by tenants throughout the twentieth century.
