In October 1890 Baptist minister the Reverend William Higlett, formerly of Toowoomba, came to Brisbane at the invitation of the Jireh Baptist Church in Fortitude Valley, to assist with establishing a Baptist chapel at Albion. In 1892 the Albion congregation separated from the Fortitude Valley congregation and the Albion Baptist Church was formed. William Higlett was their first minister, and during the 1893 floods the church and his adjacent cottage flooded. In September 1893 Higlett acquired allotments fronting McLennan and Florrie Streets, and there he erected his property ‘Camden’ probably within the following year.
