History
Evidence indicates that this church was erected on this site for the Wynnum West Mission, an independent Baptist Church. While the title deeds disclose that the property, 16 perches, was transferred into the trustees’ names in October 1929, the exact date the Church was erected is uncertain at this stage of the research.
However, by circa 1939, the church and its parishioners were unable to continue to practise their religion in isolation and “relinquished their responsibility in favour of the Wynnum Baptist Church”. The Church remained under the control of the Baptist Church until it was disposed of in the 1980s.
Description
This Interwar Gothic style church is rectangular in plan form with an attached gabled entry porch to the front. The structure is timber framed and clad with vertical timber boards. The main roof has a street-fronting gable, sheeted with corrugated iron and decorated with half-timber boards at the gable ends. Lighting and natural ventilation to the nave is provided by lancet windows. The timber-framed windows consist of a lower casement and upper hopper window with a fixed panel fanlight above.
