‘Woodlands’ was constructed circa 1911 for solicitor and politician Magnus Jensen. In 1913 it was purchased by John William Green, contractor and later Mayor of Wynnum (1922) and Lord Mayor of Greater Brisbane (1931-34). The Green (or Greene) family played a prominent role in Wynnum and Brisbane society, including sisters Alice (principal and co-founder of Moreton Bay College) and Anne (internationally-renowned artist) and brother Samuel (Mayor of Wynnum 1913 and 1917, Alderman 1938-41). ‘Woodlands’ was the residence of the Greenes’ mother Ellen until her death in 1931. The house and one acre of land was transferred to the Greene sisters in 1949, and the property was retained by the family until 1983.
