This former tram shelter with its hipped roof straddles the footpath at the bus stop by the corner of Riding Rd and Victoria St, Balmoral. The roof is clad with corrugated metal sheeting but has no gutters. The kerbside eves are truncated to allow buses to pull up. The shelter was constructed by the Brisbane City Council after the late 1940s. It was built to the design of the “Standard Waiting Shelter – P.1008” drawn by the BCC Department of Works in 1946. This design was used by the BCC to provide shelter for members of the public at bus and tram stops. A tramline ran along this section of Riding Rd. until circa 1969. In later years, it has served as a bus shelter.
