Glorimar Court is a set of four timber flats situated on a prominent site on the corner of Rusk Street and Brisbane Street. The flats were constructed in 1937 by successful building contractors, Wood and Parnwell, who recognised the opportunity to profit from the construction of flats and who had constructed numerous flats in the inner suburbs in the mid-1930s and early 1940s. Glorimar Court is important in demonstrating Brisbane’s development pattern in the interwar period, in particular in Annerley, and the way in which ideas about acceptable forms of housing were changing.

This is a place of local heritage significance and meets one or more of the local heritage criteria under the Heritage planning scheme policy of the Brisbane City Plan 2014. It is significant because:

Historical

Criterion A

The place is important in demonstrating the evolution or pattern of the city's or local area’s history

for the evidence it provides of the pattern of construction of purpose built flats in Annerley during the 1930s and as a reflection of the growth in popularity of the multi-unit dwelling in Brisbane.

Representative

Criterion D

The place is important in demonstrating the principal characteristics of a particular class or classes of cultural places

as an intact block of four flats with garages under, constructed in 1937 which retains its original form, materials, and detailing.

Aesthetic

Criterion E

The place is important because of its aesthetic significance

for its symmetrical architectural composition, materials and original detailing resulting in a building of considerable aesthetic significance, which is located on a prominent corner and makes an important contribution to the streetscape of the junction of Rusk Street, Brisbane Street, and Annerley Road.
