This small brick building was constructed between 1952 and 1953 as an automatic telephone exchange by the Post Master General’s Department (PMG). The telephone exchange was constructed to meet the growing needs of the community as the locality underwent substantial commercial and residential growth during the post-war period when the population grew from just over 400 people in the 1920s to over 5000 in the 1950s.
