History
This particular building was erected as a teacher's residence, along with the school building, in c1871.
The residence served the Education Dept until c1932 when representatives of the Trustees of the Brookfield Recreation and Show Ground Reserve purchased it in 1932 for 10/-/-. It was subsequently leased as a store to which has served the Brookfield community.
Libby Wager in her work Historic Brookfield (1988), in discussing the store, stated that "Brookfield Store remains a focal point of the community".
The building is an example of the reusable nature of rural buildings.
