The camphor laurel trees on Laurel Avenue were planted about the turn of the twentieth century. Planting is credited to either the Sherwood Divisional Board, or local resident Walter Morley, owner of ‘Floraville’ (115 Laurel Avenue). The name of the street was changed around the same time to ‘Laurel Avenue’, inextricably linking the street with the trees. Laurel Avenue has long been recognised as one of Brisbane’s most picturesque streets, due in no small part to the distinctive camphor laurels which contribute significantly to its aesthetic.
