This brick residence, with garage and side brick fence, was built for Bessie and Frampton Meade in 1932. Designed by architect David Cowell-Ham and erected by local builder A Braun, the construction costs were estimated to be £1240. David Cowell-Ham had worked as an assistant to prominent architects Lang Powell and Eric Trewern during the mid-1920s before taking up work with the firm of HE White in Sydney. He returned to Brisbane where he practised from 1931-35 before moving on to Melbourne.

History
Frampton Meade was a surgeon in Brisbane at the time he built this house. He had been the resident surgical registrar at Melbourne Hospital prior to WWI, and had enlisted in the AIF and during 1916 served as a medical officer on military transport ships to and from Australia. He was also appointed Officer Commanding the Base Hospital at St Kilda Rd. After the war he moved to rural Queensland and ultimately settled in Brisbane where he practised as a surgeon.
Dr Meade died on 3 June 1950, and under his will an amount in excess of $200,000 was bequeathed to the University of Queensland for a series of scholarships bearing his name. The scholarships commenced in 1976 and are used to promote the study of the pure sciences and assist research therein.
