This substantial timber home demonstrates the beginning of the transformation of Albion/Clayfield at the close of the nineteenth century from a rural district with several large wealthy estates to a prestigious suburban area where the wealthier members of Brisbane’s middle class built gracious residences set in large grounds. Built in the Victorian style with some Federation features, it is significant for its aesthetic value.

The place is important in demonstrating the evolution or pattern of the city's or local area’s history

as it demonstrates the transformation of Albion/Clayfield at the end of the nineteenth century from a rural district with several wealthy estates to a prestigious suburban enclave where many substantial homes were built in large grounds.

Representative

Criterion D

The place is important in demonstrating the principal characteristics of a particular class or classes of cultural places

as a fine example of a substantial timber Victorian style residence with some Federation style features.

Aesthetic

Criterion E

The place is important because of its aesthetic significance

as an elegant, well-proportioned residence with decorative detailing, complemented by its setting in a mature garden and a masonry and iron fence.
