History
This fine residence was built in 1926 for Mr Vic Jensen. It was designed by Architect Charles Herbert Griffin. At the time of writing it is thought that Jensen was the same as Vic Jensen “the Hussling Shoe man” with premises in Queen Street.
Architect Charles Griffin had trained as an architect in London. After moving to Brisbane he was employed by the Qld Government as a draftsman and then moved into a brief partnership with another architect, Roy Chipps. This partnership was dissolved when Chipps relocated to Rockhampton. Griffin remained in Brisbane, rising to the post of Councillor of the QIA on 1933. He died in 1950.
Griffin was busy during the mid twenties, his name appearing in the Tender Notices of the Architecture and building Journal of Queensland tender notices with regularity. He undertook mostly houses and residences, and had done some commercial work for Vic Jensen early in1927.
