The building is a small nineteenth century brick cottage believed to have been built circa 1886 by Charles Cope. Charles Cope arrived in Brisbane from London aboard the ‘Young Australia’ in 1869. He initially took up land at Logan, but eventually acquired Captain Pym’s premises at Tingalpa. There he opened a general store in July 1871, and was noted as postmaster for the district in 1873. Cope purchased this Linton street land in October 1885, and was living in ‘Brixton Cottage’ in Linton Street by the following year.
