This building, designed by the notable architectural firm of Chambers and Ford, is an example of the flat/apartment building boom that occurred within inner city Brisbane during the 1930s. Its construction allowed the owners to take advantage of the commercial exposure of Brunswick Street, while meeting the demand for accommodation in the New Farm locality. Demand for accommodation during the late 1930s within New Farm was exacerbated by the construction of the nearby Story Bridge. The name of the flats is given as Whattall Flats.
