Vincent Cottage was built for and possibly by James Carmichael, who owned and operated the Carmichael Brothers sawmill in South Brisbane. It is likely that Carmichael built this as an investment property, as he offered the house for lease from April 1891. Tenants in the early 1900s used the six-room house as a local entertainment and fundraising venue. Mrs Carmichael moved into Vincent Cottage after her husband’s death in 1923, and the family retained the property until 1939. In the 1950s it was converted into three two-bedroom flats, called Moreton View Flats, but it has since returned to use as a single dwelling.
