This small timber cottage was built between 1874 and 1876 for James Murray, a bootmaker. It was at this time when much of the land in Spring Hill was being subdivided into small lots on which many workers’ cottage were built. Murray and his family continued to own the property until 1934. As an 1870s transverse-gable timber cottage with a very steep pitched roof, Murray’s Cottage represents the urban development of Spring Hill in this era.
