This is the earliest surviving residence in Deagon. It was built in the late nineteenth century for the Shackel family who had owned the land since October 1888. At the time of construction the Deagon area was an outlying part of Sandgate. The house was built in Charles (now Loftus) Street. The area was officially identified as Deagon by 1912.
